Community Resources
Statewide, 1 in 7 Hoosiers (approximately 14.3%) struggle with hunger, and among children, that number rises to 1 in 5, according to Feed America. Government programs that many depend on to survive are at risk under the current administration.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps individuals and families with low or no income afford groceries. In Indiana SNAP is managed by the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA). While there was an effort to redirect state funds to minimize disruptions in SNAP during the 2025 government shutdown, Indiana’s State Budget Committee composed of Republicans rejected the effort.
The Brown County Democrats believe that no one in the United States should go hungry. No one should have to choose between paying for their medicine or their groceries. Our community is focused on helping our neighbors, and we’ve compiled a list of food pantries and community meals available in Brown County.
Hoosiers in need of support are encouraged to call 211 to learn about local resources and services available.
